Privacy Policy
This site belongs to Eric S. Chapman, a marketing director, writer, and photographer in Swartz Creek, Michigan. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: I collect very little, I never sell it, and you can ask me to delete anything.
Information you send me
When you use the contact form, I receive your name, email address, the topic you choose, and your message. The form is delivered to my inbox by email through Twilio SendGrid, and I use it only to reply to you and to follow up on what you asked about. Messages are kept in my email account (Google Workspace) for as long as they’re useful, and I’ll delete yours on request.
If you email me directly, the same applies.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and how they find the site. It records things like the pages you visit, how you arrived (for example, from a search engine), your general location (city or region), and your device and browser type. Google Analytics does not log or store full IP addresses. I don’t use it for advertising, and advertising features are turned off.
- In the United States and most other countries, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named
_gaand_ga_followed by an ID) to tell visits apart. - In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, no analytics cookies are set. Google may receive a cookieless signal that a page was viewed, without identifying you.
You can opt out of Google Analytics on every site with Google’s browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
When you send a message through the contact form, Analytics records that a message was sent and its topic. It never receives your name, email, or message.
Hosting and security
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web server, Netlify keeps short-lived technical logs of requests (such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Content loaded from other services
- Fonts come from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google’s servers to load them.
- The Writing page shows recent posts from my Substack newsletter, The Republic of Dust, and loads their images from Substack’s servers.
- Links to Substack, Pixieset, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google Maps, and other sites take you to services with their own privacy policies.
Your settings
If you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage on your own device. It never leaves your device.
What I don’t do
I don’t sell, rent, or trade your information. I don’t run ads or advertising trackers. I don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your choices and rights
You can ask me what information I have about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it by emailing hello@ericchapman.com. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU, the UK, or certain US states), you may have additional rights under local law, and I’ll honor them.
Changes
If this policy changes, I’ll update the date at the top of this page.
