The marketing department, minus the department

A senior marketer who sets the strategy, runs the agencies, and owns the results, for part of the week and a fraction of an executive salary.

Why it matters

Growing businesses hit the same wall. Marketing lives in three places at once: an agency nobody manages, a part-time coordinator, and the owner's evenings. Nobody owns the results, so nobody gets them.

I was a marketing department of one for ten years, and I spent most of it learning what a department actually does: decide where the money goes, make the agencies earn it, and report the number that matters, which is almost never the one on the agency's first slide. Fractional means you get that judgment for the hours you need it. No salary, no benefits, no corner office. I never had one anyway.

What's included

  • A plan you can read

Where the business is, where it's going, and what marketing will do about it, in a few pages, not a slide deck nobody opens.

  • Budget and channels

Where the money goes, by channel, and what each one has to prove to keep getting it.

  • Agency and vendor management

Clear goals for your agencies, honest reviews of their work, and contracts renegotiated when they should be.

  • Brand and messaging

One clear way of talking about the business, written down so everyone uses it.

  • Reporting that ties to revenue

Leads, bookings, and sales, not impressions. Monthly, in plain English.

  • Building the team

Help hiring your first marketer, or setting up the one you have to succeed.

Questions

What does fractional mean?
Part time, on an ongoing basis. You get a senior marketing leader for a set number of hours each month instead of a full-time hire.
Do you do the work or manage it?
Both. I set the strategy and manage the agencies and vendors, and I'll write, build, or fix things myself when that's faster.
How much of your time do I get?
A set number of hours each month, agreed up front. I keep only a few engagements at a time, so each one gets real attention.
Do you work remotely?
Mostly, by video call and email. In Genesee County I'm glad to meet in person.

Other services

I also offer Website Design & CRO, Local SEO, and Google Business Profile Management. I work with businesses across Michigan, especially around Flint and Genesee County, and the rest of the US.

What can't you see in your marketing?

Tell me what you spend, who does the work, and the number you wish you had. Within two business days, I'll reply with the first question I'd ask your agency.

Free, and I read every one. I reserve the right not to answer some of them. The fine print.
