Why it matters
A good-looking website that doesn't ring the phone is a brochure with hosting fees. I see the same three problems on most sites I'm asked to look at: it crawls on a phone, the phone number is hiding in the footer, and the copy is about the company instead of the person who needs the company. Fixing those isn't glamorous. It's the job.
My first job was as an EMT, and conversion work is closer to triage than to design. You find what's actually wrong, fix that first, and check that the patient is breathing better before you touch anything else, which on a website means changing one thing, measuring it long enough to trust the number, and only then moving on. That's conversion rate optimization (CRO). It gets more out of the traffic you already pay for.

- Can you fix my current site instead of rebuilding it?
- Often, yes. If the bones are good, a round of conversion fixes costs less than a rebuild and pays off sooner. I'll tell you which one you need.
- What do you build on?
- It depends on who will update the site. WordPress if your team wants to edit pages themselves, a hand-built static site if speed and low upkeep matter more.
- What is CRO?
- Conversion rate optimization: changes to your website that get more visitors to take the next step, like calling, booking, or filling out a form. It's measured in leads, not looks.
